The
S3-UVIR
Now in Stock! |
Peca Products Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of the
new Fuji Fine Pix S3 Pro UVIR Digital Camera. While of interest to the
scientific, medical and fine arts industries, the most intriguing
application may be in the field of law enforcement investigation because
of it’s ability to see and record evidence not easily seen by the human
eye.
Mike Brooks, of Brooks Photographic Imaging,
www.brooksphotographicimaging.com a well-know consultant to law
enforcement agencies said after checking out a late prototype,
“capturing and displaying the alterations in a forged document, or the
information hidden in an obliterated one using IR photography is now
easier by leaps & bounds. |
Features: |
- Records images that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
- Takes photographs in the Ultraviolet & Infrared light
spectrums. (350nm to 1,000nm)
- “Live View” when using IR or UV light, eliminates guesswork.
Saves time and guesswork with immediate verification of a captured
image.Outstanding image quality with many automatic features for
everyday use.
- 12.34 million (S-pixel 6.17 million, R-pixel 6.17 million)
pixels.
- Makes evidence preservation easier, and data cataloging more
efficient.
- Super CCD SR II sensor gives 400% more dynamic range for
finer detail.
- Low noise for better color.
- Uses Nikon F mount lenses.
- Uses 4 AA batteries. (Ni-MH recommended)
- Uses KD cards, CF cards and Microdrive.

Recommendations: |
This camera’s CCD UV and IR filters have been
modified to improve light capture from the near
Ultraviolet (UV above 350nm) though the visible and into the near
infrared (IR below 1000nm).
Under situations where UV or IR are the dominant sources of light,
the camera’s Auto Focusing (AF) mechanism may not operate properly due
to a lack of visible spectrum light. It is recommended that Manual
Focusing be used in these situations.
Your FinePix S3 Pro UVIR has been
equipped with a 30 second live CCD preview mode which can be used to
focus the camera in manual mode. This is useful when using dark UV or IR
filters on the lens or when focusing under the presence of invisible UV
or IR light sources. To turn this mode on: (1) press MENU/OK, (2) select
Live Preview and press MENU/OK, (3) press MENU/OK to confirm. Be sure
the camera’s manual focusing mode is turned on.
Your lens was intended for use within the visible
light spectrum. A soft focus effect is common when using Auto Focusing
due to the presence of IR light. To correct this, set the focusing to
Manual and offset the lens focus very slightly to compensate for the
effect of IR light passing through the lens. A similar effect happens
under UV light.
Not all lenses can achieve a sharp IR or UV image due to protective
coatings built
into the lens and the inclusion of modern high tech glass elements that
have been specifically designed for use in the visible light spectrum.
Under situations where UV or IR are the dominant sources of light, the
camera’s
Auto Exposure (AE) system may not operate properly due to the lack of
visible spectrum light. It is recommended that Manual Exposure (M) be
used in these situations. Program (P), Aperture Priority (A), and
Shutter Priority (S) are likely to malfunction in the presence of high
amounts of UV and IR light.
Under extreme UV or IF lighting conditions, moiré patterns and other
image problems can appear. Using a higher ISO can help reduce this
effect, but may not eliminate it completely.
(Suggestion: Use ISO’s of 200 or higher for wavelength specific
photography.)

IMPORTANT NOTICES AND DISCLAIMERS: |
THIS CAMERA HAS BEEN MODIFIED FOR TECHNICAL USE
IN ULTRAVIOLET, VISIBLE, AND INFRARED PHOTOGRAPHY. PLEASE READ THE
NOTICES BELOW.
WARNING – ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT SOURCES CAN CAUSE EYE AND SKIN DAMAGE. USE
UV PROTECTIVE EYEWARE AND CLOTHING.

CAMERA Q&A: |
Q: What are the operational wavelengths this camera can capture?
A: Acceptable images can be captured between 350nm and 1000nm depending
on the ISO and lens combinations.
Q: What is the acceptable ISO Range?
A: It is recommended to stay above 200 ISO, moiré patterns are possible
under UV photography under 400 ISO. It is largely a trial and error
process.
Q: What lenses can be used?
A: Nikon F mount lenses can be used; however some lens models transmit
IR and UV light better than others. Likewise some models provide a
softer focus from IR light than others.
Q: How do I focus the camera when using a dark filter on the lens?
A: The S3 Pro UVIR model has been modified for faster access to its
unique “LCD live CCD preview” mode which provides a live preview from
the CCD and can also be used to manually focus the camera.
Q: Will auto focusing and auto exposure work properly?
A: In most cases, due to the wide range of light wavelengths captured,
focusing will need to be accomplished manually. Likewise, exposures will
need to be calculated manually.
Q: How do I select which wavelength the camera will capture?
A: This is accomplished by lens filtration or in a darkroom using an
Alternative Light Source (ALS), such as a crimescope. |
